Its got to be yummy!

Its got to be yummy!

One of the key things I learnt as a veterinarian in clinical practice was that if you recommended a certain food to a client they would most likely buy one bag, but it was totally up to the dog as to whether the owners came back to buy another one! Dogs are just like us - they like their food to taste good. Although judging by some of the things they will hoover up on the beach, I do sometimes question their definition of "good"!

So its been really important to us to get the palatability of our food just right. Given the high levels of meat protein we are using in our diet, and especially the anecdotal evidence I'd heard over the years about how tasty possum meat is, we were pretty sure it would be highly palatable. But the proof is in the tasting. So it was with great trepidation that I started handing out our first tasting samples to friends, family and dog loving neighbours.

We didn't have to wait long before the feedback started rolling in .......

The first one came from my sister down in my hometown of Invercargill - "OMG, Arlo just tried to break into the pantry to get more of your food!"

Then a few other friends .........

"Smurf absolutely loved it"

"The food is a huge hit"

So yup, we fed it to a bunch of dogs, big and small, a huge variety of different breeds and ages, and they all loved it. So we know we've made a really good product.

Now for the ultimate test - we're off to find some REALLY fussy dogs to see what they think.

There's a new trend happening in the pet food market, one that we have inadvertently become part of - pest to plate. In other words, taking a pest species and turning it into a product that is desirable to eat.
